Up until now
I suppose my first post on the blog should be somewhat of an introduction and recollection of what I have done in the past to get where I am in both my technical ability and direction in filmmaking.
I have been working over the past three years filming and editing a skate video (yes, I said it, a SKATE VIDEO). I poured my heart and soul into this work. It was based in Cleveland and I was working with a group of skateboarders with talent that I assure you will take them outside of the confines of our little town.
The video was called 'Windows and Doorways'. As of now it is being replicated and will be in shops by the end of next week. We had a video premiere put on by the Slavic Village Development group, mainly pushed for by their active living department which basically is a sect within their development group dedicated to getting the youth off of their asses and out of gangs and into more productive activities, like skateboarding. They took care of all of our costs related to showing the video and provided a projector, audio equipment, and a place to show it.
The turnout was huge and the event was a success. It was a combo art show/video premiere, with top artists of the area displaying works they had created alongside the video.
My favorite look in film/video is a look of darkness and urban decay. I really like films that have the aesthetic of darkness, and I am a big fan of an organic film look- by this i mean lots of grain and imperfections in the footage.
I hope to further define my vision and learn more about making films outside of my comfort zone- which is skateboarding. I love filming skating but as I created this video there were elements of it that were not directly related to skating that I began to get very excited about. I decided that I did not want to be cornered into a life revolving ENTIRELY around skate video making, so thus I decided I would like to learn more about the craft itself....
