Infrared headphones
What It Is: A pair of headphones that combine power and fidelity with a sweet-looking design. Who It's For: Fans who want the feel and power of a noise-cancelling unit without the need for batteries. Why It's Worthy: Phiaton's MS 400 model has leather in-lays for maximum comfort, and have a cool old-school fit about them (big enough to let people know you mean business, but not so huge that you look like a dork). The sound fidelity is crisp and clear - powerful enough to deliver noise-cancelling-worthy sound without creating that weird pressure in your ears. Our Only Complaint: There's a little bit lost in the low end, so they're not the best choice for hip-hop
Ultrasone, a headphone manufacturer known more over in Germany than here in the United States, is debuting its new PRO 900 headphones with special sound technology. It better be really good sound technology though, as these headphones will run you around $600. The Ultrasone PRO 900 headphones make use of something the manufacturer calls S-Logic Plus technology to deliver that extra special listening feeling. Acoustically redesigned earcups combine a number of factors to create a more 'neutral sound impression with more vivid perception of voices and instruments.' Features of the PRO 900 include a closed-back design, a new 40mm titan-plated driver, velvet covered black and silver ear pads and a hard-sided carrying case. It should be available now. You can get more details on these headphones at Ultrasone's Web site
